Following a few practical safety guidelines can ensure that physical activity is always fun and pleasant.
- If your activity is strenuous or intense, or if you have not had a physical examination this year, get check out by your physician.
- If you are just starting to be active, start slowly and gradually increase duration, intensity, and frequency.
- Wear proper clothing and shoes.
- Be active with a partner.
- Pedestrians … Always walk against traffic. DO NOT CROSS roads and streets outside of cross walks. ALWAYS make sure you have eye contact with drivers in on-coming vehicles BEFORE you cross the street.
- Drink plenty of water – before, during, and after physical activity.
- Don’t be a couch potato … but don’t be a baked potato either. Wear sunscreen and sun protective clothing when outdoors. Avoid the mid-day sun.
